Venetian Plaster

The most popular in demand, decorative “Venetian” plaster, is a tinted plaster that is applied by a hand using a trowel.

Multiple layers are applied several times in order to create the desired finish. Many options in materials, methods and applications result in a variety of customizable finishes. The result is a completely original and unique plaster design.

The finish can vary from either a high sheen to a matte appearance, with the texture of the plaster running the gamut of extremely rough to a glasslike surface. There is no middle road in Venetian plaster, everything from the mixture to the application must be in perfect harmony or the results will be unsatisfactory. The finished surface is a cleanable, and if damage occurs, repairable.

Award-winning project: restoration of the Woodrow Wilson’s house in Princeton, NJ.

This massive project included restorative work and Venetian plaster application on walls and ceilings throughout the common areas, special details on the fireplace and sconces, and kitchen elements. The projects received a New Jersey Historic Preservation Award for Plasterwork in 2007.

Flat plaster

Flat plaster

Flat plaster can be thought of in two different ways. Veneer plaster is applied in a series of multiple coats, to different surfaces (wood or sheetrock). Lath plaster is found in older building and has a backing of wood stripes or metal lath and multiple coats as well.
Benefits of flat plaster:
- Dampen the transfer of noise from one room to the next.
- Plaster is more fire resistant than drywall. - Flat plaster is contour-friendly to create custom curves and arches in walls and ceilings.

Ornamental Plaster

Ornamental Plaster

Ornamental plaster is plaster that has been poured into a mold. When it comes out of the mold, the decorative plaster object can be applied to a wall or ceiling. In my gallery you can find an example of reproduction work I did at a renovation at a historic bank. (add hyperlink to gallery) The work is exacting requiring several stages of production. Properly executed it will be indistinguishable from the original.
